Architect Andres Cotic is running out of time hoping for a second liver transplant.
His skin a deep jaundiced yellow, three years after being diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver, he joined the NDP's renewed call Tuesday for changes to Ontario organ donor regulations.
Since doctors told him complications after a co-worker donated half his liver would require another one, Cotic said, "I've been struggling to survive."
Ironically, the diagnosis came as a surprise, he said. "I was not an alcoholic."
Instead, doctors discovered Cotic, 60, had contracted Hepatitis B years earlier. Affects of the virus were irreversible.
"It was too late," the Parkdale-High Park resident said.
